In Kidapawan City, North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel Piñol filed his certificate of candidacy for the gubernatorial race. Piñol was a three-term governor before sliding down to the vice governorship in the 2007 elections.
Like Ocampos, who also supported President Arroyo on some issues, Piñol decided to run under the LP.
