THREE Cebuanos are among 32 individuals who will soon join the House of Representatives, following the Supreme Court's (SC) decision to expand party-list representation in Congress. Pastor "Jun" Alcover Jr., who is set to join Congress on behalf of Anad party-list, yesterday warned "Communist party-list members" to stop deceiving the people because he will expose them. Meanwhile, Raymond Mendoza of the TUCP party-list said he will concentrate on social legislation once he officially joins the Lower House.
Mendoza will be joining his wife Emmylou Aliño-Mendoza, a third-term congresswoman of the first district of North Cotabato. The third Cebuano who will soon join Congress is Cresente C. Paez of Coop-Natcco, a national federation of cooperatives. Unlike Anad and TUCP, Coop-Natcco already has one representative in the Lower House.

A DAY after the Supreme Court announced it has ruled the filling up of additional party-list representation in the House of Representatives, the chamber's committee on revision of laws yesterday approved proposals seeking 50 additional congressional seats to the current 250.
Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Villafuerte on Wednesday said he is questioning Tuesday's House proceedings that saw the sponsorship of House Speaker Prospero Nograles' resolution for charter change through legislation. Villafuerte, who is also the head of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (KAMPI), said he found it "objectionable" that specific amendments are now being proposed even without the mode for amending the charter.
Villafuerte said he prefers that Congress first convene as a constituent assembly before tackling specific amendments.

Taguig's partner is the same company that Osmeña had criticized for demanding P16 million from Cebu City as payment for the demolition of the Ramos public market.
