Jail guard in workers abduction shot dead
Jupakkal was on board a motorcycle when gunmen aboard another motorcycle opened fire on him. He sustained three gunshot wounds and died on the spot, Kasim said.
Jupakkal had been suspended after 11 prisoners bolted the provincial jail in Patikul town on Jan. 13 with his companion Raden Abu. Abu was tagged as a prime suspect in the kidnapping of three ICRC workers - Swiss national Andreas Notter, Italian Eugenio Vagni and Filipino Mary Jean Lacaba - who inspected a water and sanitation project at the prison.
Jupakkal underwent investigation after ICRC's abduction, but it as not clear whether his death was related to the case.
The ICRC hostages were later handed over the Al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group and have remained in captive for almost 50 days.

Pops-Jomari break-up confirmed
It's confirmed: Pops Fernandez and Jomari Yllana have broken up. "There was no third party. The culprit was money." Pops has just starred with her ex-husband Martin Nievera in their reunion concert Missing You early last month at the Araneta Coliseum and it was Jomari who produced it under Fearless Productions (which he co-manages with friends Ronald and Ryan Singson). Was there an "issue" as far as Pops' talent fee was concerned?
Dr. Vicki Belo has sent Ruffa Gutierrez (photo) an urgent letter "ordering" her to remove the ads showing her (Ruffa) endorsing Philosophy by Mikaela, the clinic of Mikaela Bilbao, newest beauty expert on the scene. But Ruffa is reportedly puzzled why the doktora would run against her when there's no conflict at all between her being the "corporate" endorser of The Belo Medical Clinic and the "salon line" endorser of Mikaela (together with Rufa Mae Quinto for the "skin care" and Pops Fernandez for the "non-surgical body treatment").
Sarah is the new ABS-CBN Queen
By virtue of the staggering box-office gross of her latest movie, You Changed My Life, Sarah Geronimo (photo) is hands-down the true "queen" of Star Cinema and its sister company, ABS-CBN. The movie raked in more than P27 million on opening day and over P70 million during its three days of showing. That likewise makes John Lloyd Cruz, Sarah's leading man, the twin company's "king." Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, You Changed My Life is projected to gross, hold your breath, P250 million during its entire run, surpassing the P180 million total gross of the love team's first starrer, A Very Special Love (also directed by Cathy).
